DBS Data – Inaugural Golf Day – 22nd June 2011
Mid-morning on Wednesday the 22nd June saw a group of the golfing elite from the world of Data Marketing gather for the inaugural DBS Data Golf Day. Our chosen venue, Warley Park Golf Club in the heart of the Essex Countryside, was bathed in glorious Mid-Summer sunshine as highly tuned athletes launched Exocet like golf balls onto the practice grounds.
Those of you in attendance might just find the above description slightly less than accurate but the enthusiasm was there if not the golfing prowess.
The truth is that early in May DBS was presented with the opportunity to host its first ever Golf Day. It seemed an exciting prospect, the booking was made and invites sent. Many were keen to attend and it soon became clear that DBS was out of its depth. An organiser was sought and found; he knew what a ‘Driver’ was and had once played golf on the X-box; DBS had found an expert.
A format was chosen (Stableford Pairs), a ballot was drawn and guests invited, trophies were found and umbrellas were purchased (this WAS a good idea). The 8 intrepid DBS golfers even played several practice rounds. With an average handicap of 63 we knew we were as prepared as we could be.
Arriving at Warley at 11.00 AM we were greeted by heavy rain and strong winds, but with the fortification of Bacon rolls and plenty of coffee we set off at 12.15 determined to have a good time.
And that we all did. It is with great pleasure that DBS would like to thank all in attendance for making the effort and even the sun came out for the back nine allowing us to finish the round in very pleasant conditions.
A good time was had by all and by the time we sat down to dinner, ready to outdo each other with tails of air shots, duffed chips and tee shots into the car park it was clear that the day had been a big success.
For the record, the day was won by Adam Williams and Tristan followed closely by Andy Pringle and Stuart Huke. Chris Jillard won longest drive.
Ian Bright thought he’d won nearest the pin and the prize was very nearly presented to him when Scott from DBS pointed out that Vic Bussey had in fact won but Scott had forgotten to tell anyone! Ian presented the prize to Vic and DBS up held its reputation of Golfing Experts.
Our final mention will be for two outstanding performances; Stuart Huke playing off 16 shot a net 84 for 37 points, the performance of the day; and Gary Brandon cemented the DBS reputation with a fantastic haul of 3 points playing of his (ladies) handicap of 36 – and he was one of our better players!
